Feb 24, 2020: Dibya Shankar Mishra, Minister of State (MoS) for the Home Department revealed to the assembly that till December 2019 10,054 posts in the Odisha State Police remained vacant. This revelation came to light as a reply to a question raised by Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati.
The minister also went on to add that a total of 72,119 posts were sanctioned in the police department. The current strength of the Odisha State Police stands at 62,065. Furthermore, a complete breakup of the number of vacant posts in different categories was also communicated: 501 Group A posts, 1823 Group B posts, 6487 Group C posts, and 1243 Group D posts.
He assured that these vacancies in different categories will be filled through recruitment drives and with the help of promotions and transfers in due time. He also said that as many as 78 IPS posts belonging to the Odisha cadre were vacant for a long time, adding that the official sanctioned strength of the state IPS cadre is 195.
What’s more, Mr. Mishra also brought to the fore that as much as 29 state cadre IPS officers were on central deputation.
"Out of the 29 IPS officers in the central deputation, 3 officers are working outside Odisha for over 12 years ”, said Mr. Mishra. He also went on to say that the state government’s efforts to fill up vacancies in the IPS cadre with more officers are ongoing, but hasn’t been addressed fully.
